Hey Baby Sister
Thought I’d drop you a line
How’s your life
Hope everything’s fine
Haven’t seen you since your wedding day
And now your first baby is on the way
And though we haven’t always felt like sisters
I drove all night just to hold and kiss her
To tell her all the things I never told you
And to show her I all the love I never got to show you
Will she have your smile? Do you have mine?
I think you about you all the time
And though we grew up miles and miles apart
Sweet sister of mine, you are the jewel of my heart
Hey Baby Sister, are you OK?
It’s been 18 hours since things got underway
Do you deal with pain better than I do
Is that another thing we have in common too?
We never got the chance to grow up as sisters
But we’ve done alright, all things considered
Thought I’d sing the things I never told you
I hope you feel the love I never got to show you
Will she have Dad’s nose, just like you?
Or his sense of humor the way I do?
And though we grew up miles and miles apart
Your little Ruby, will be the jewel of my heart
May she be sure and full of fight
May her light shine ever brighter
May peace always find her
And may her mother’s heart never tire (Ever higher)
May she one day grow to love me
The way we’ve grown to love each other
Either way I will love her
Cause she is my sister’s daughter
Oh sweet Ruby, you are the jewel of all our hearts
May it never ever feel like we are miles and miles apart
Oh sweet Ruby, you are the jewel of all our hearts
These songs are the kind of gems that rarely come about for anyone without a long practice of songwriting. The language of the lyrics is always original, connecting commonly felt things in new ways. The music, delivery, and band are perfect vehicles for these wonderful songs. pdxshinn
Powerful collection rooted in the stories that must be re-told. Played by some of the most generous community music people I’ve met during my foray into Old Time music.
This CD is a keeper! Ellen B. (Elly) Marshall
Wow. One of those rare instant-impact albums. I came to it the "wrong" way round, already familiar with Allison's outstanding Outside Child - one of the finest albums of the past 12 months.
And it's in the same plane - albeit different from her solo masterpiece, though with many similar characteristics, such as on Travelers and Roisin Starchild.
Love in Wartime hits so many peaks - in musicianship, lyrics, genres and especially melody. Neville Dalton
Long time follower of Mark's work. I know every album is stellar without question. This album is no different, but even better if that is possible. Love it! norm tandberg
The instrumentation and songwriting in this album is really top-tier. Aofie is one of my favorite folk/alt-country artists and she performs wonderfully, bringing her unique tone of voice to this project. This album was my first step into Aofie's artistry, and is firmly one of my favorite albums. rileyridgway
